New Atlas Humanoid Robot with Google DeepMind Partnership

Atlas is Boston Dynamics' next-generation humanoid robot designed specifically for industrial enterprise applications. Unveiled as an all-electric robot built on decades of research and real-world experience, Atlas represents the world's most dynamic humanoid robot platform. The robot stands at 1.9 meters (6.2 feet) tall, weighs 90 kg (198 lbs), and features 56 degrees of freedom with continuous range of motion. It can carry a maximum instantaneous load of 50 kg (110 lbs) and sustained load of 30 kg (66 lbs), with a reach of 2.3 meters (7.5 feet). Atlas operates with a 4-hour battery life and features self-swappable batteries for continuous operation. The robot has IP67 ingress protection and operates in temperatures from -20 to 40 degrees Celsius. Atlas navigates autonomously with 360-degree camera vision and tactile sensing, requiring minimal supervision for a range of material handling applications. When one Atlas learns a new skill, that task can be easily deployed across the entire Atlas fleet using Boston Dynamics' AI systems. Atlas connects to Boston Dynamics' Orbit enterprise management platform, which serves as a single source of truth to connect the robot to MES, WMS, and other systems of record, overseeing robot work, performance, and fleet metrics. The company has partnered with Google DeepMind to advance AI capabilities for the robot, combining DeepMind's research in robotics AI with Boston Dynamics' hardware expertise. Atlas is designed to operate within the same workstations and use the same equipment as human workers, with robust perception and intelligent safety systems. Early customer pilots are underway with Hyundai for real-world sequencing tasks, and Boston Dynamics is expanding to machine tending, order building, and part sequencing applications.
