The VLA model was demonstrated controlling Figure humanoid robots performing household activities including organizing objects, loading dishwashers, stacking items, and navigating cluttered home environments. Helix represents a shift from specialized industrial robots to general-purpose humanoid assistants capable of operating in unstructured human environments. The model processes continuous visual input alongside natural language task descriptions to generate low-level motor control signals that direct the robots end-effectors with precision. This generalist approach dramatically reduces the development time and cost required to deploy humanoid robots for new tasks, potentially enabling mass-market adoption of robotic household assistants in the near future.
