AZORG Health System, one of the largest hospital networks in Belgium and the third largest hospital system in Flanders, cut door-to-balloon time by 48 minutes across six campuses. In 2025 the Queen of Hearts™ AI ECG model analysed 32,807 ECGs for 10,854 unique patients, with 377 clinicians actively using PMcardio each month and more than 500 heart attacks detected.
"PMcardio has revolutionized our approach to cardiac emergencies. The significant reduction in our door-to-balloon times has directly translated to better patient outcomes. The AI-powered analysis gives our team confidence in making critical decisions faster."
The network was formed on January 1, 2025 from the merger of A.S.Z. and OLV Hospital, bringing six campuses and a large regional population under one organisation with more than 5,000 employees and over 600 physician specialists. Cardiovascular care is a strategic priority within the network, where rapid coordination across multiple sites is essential to ensuring timely treatment for acute cardiac emergencies.
AZORG implemented PMcardio as a unified STEMI pathway spanning six hospital campuses, emergency departments, cardiology and cath labs, connecting pre-hospital care, emergency medicine, cardiology and interventional teams. The pathway defines standardized activation, escalation and handover protocols across the entire cardiac network, replacing fragmented workflows between emergency medical services, emergency departments and cardiology teams that had been worsening delays.
PMcardio is an AI-powered ECG analysis and cardiac pathway platform that integrates with hospital ECG devices, clinical communication systems and IT infrastructure, so an ECG taken in the field or at the door is analysed automatically and the result can reach the interventional cardiologist before the patient arrives. By embedding ECG interpretation and escalation workflows directly into daily clinical practice across the campuses, AZORG created a unified framework for faster recognition, standardized activation and consistent care delivery, even in complex multi-site environments.
The results panel of the case study reports a 48-minute reduction in overall door-to-balloon time and a 360-minute, or six-hour, reduction in D2B time for STEMI-equivalent patients, alongside a 50% improvement in guideline adherence across the network. AZORG handles more than 90,000 emergency department admissions each year against nearly one million consultations.
The case study positions the pathway as a template for other health systems, noting that PMcardio supports organisations in mapping, standardizing and digitizing acute cardiac workflows across departments and campuses.
