Morpheus Studios, a Seoul AI video production studio founded by veteran Korean film and television VFX professionals, produced an entire three-minute sequence for the SBS drama "Agent Kim: Reactivated" using only its own AI video creation platform, AICRON. According to the studio, it is the first Korean commercial drama to feature a fully AI-generated three-minute sequence.
The sequence, aired across Episodes 1 and 2, depicts a past covert mission in North Korea by the protagonist, played by So Ji-sub: a building explosion, a snowbound car chase, gunfights and a river plunge. These were scenes that would have demanded significant time and cost to shoot in live action. Not a single frame of live-action footage appears in the sequence. Every shot was generated by AI, including multiple close-ups of the lead actor's face, using an AI-recreated likeness of the actor produced with his consent and the production company's cooperation.
AICRON is a node-based AI video creation platform, launched in February 2026, that integrates more than 150 AI models. The whole production ran inside it, from planning and image generation to editing and colour grading. In the first month the team generated roughly 500 concept images to lock the visual direction, then over two months produced 1,000 AI images and more than 2,000 video clips, from which 289 cuts made the final broadcast. The work was overseen by Ryu Jae-hwan, Vice President of Morpheus Studios and a VFX supervisor on films including "Road to Boston", "Swing Kids" and "The Flu".
"What AI does best is reproducing patterns from the data it was trained on, and relying on that alone produces generic images. The key was pushing the technology toward what it is not naturally good at: cinematic angles and dramatic moments," Ryu said.
The series ended its run with a nationwide rating of 23.0% and a peak of 27.1% (Nielsen Korea), the highest-rated Korean miniseries of 2026 to date. Streaming on Netflix, it topped Netflix's Global Non-English TV chart for three consecutive weeks and reached the Top 10 in 73 countries. A disclaimer noted that AI was used in parts of the production, but the fully AI-generated nature of the sequence went unnoticed until Morpheus Studios disclosed it, and Korean social media reaction was dominated by viewers saying they had no idea it was AI. "AICRON was built to give creators a new creative tool in AI, and we will keep upgrading it," said Sean Lee, CEO of Morpheus Studios.
