Dimension Studio, part of DNEG 360, developed and deployed an end-to-end AI-powered content production pipeline that reduces animated film production from months to weeks, with the animated film Mara & Milo completed in just one-third the time traditional processes would require. Junaid Baig, head of applied technology at Dimension/DNEG 360, described the architecture: "We use an AI agentic framework for script breakdown, early character and environment definition, and to identify the beats and nuances in the story." The front-end uses ComfyUI with a mix of Stable Diffusion and Flux models trained with LoRA (low rank adaptation) and fine-tuned for image generation. The pipeline also includes custom tools for in-painting, automatic dataset generation, and turntable generation, while remaining flexible for artists to use their tools of choice like Adobe Photoshop and Unreal Engine. It integrates with Dimension's existing asset management and review pipeline for seamless adoption. The pipeline started as an internal capability build and was rolled out across the business to help creative teams iterate quickly on character, costume, environment, lighting, animation, camera moves and shot creation. Dimension positions it as a human-centric AI approach — the pipeline supports artists rather than replacing roles. The result is dramatic acceleration: production on Mara & Milo was reduced to approximately one-third of the timeline traditional processes would require. Dimension now targets animated series, short-form content, and advertising where fast turnaround deadlines make the AI pipeline especially valuable.
