Satispay, Italy's leading independent payment network serving 6 million consumers and more than 450,000 merchants, deployed Claude Code to every engineering laptop after a structured 30-day evaluation in mid-2025. Claude Cowork then spread organically across finance, legal, and operations. According to the deployment case study, more than 75% of code committed monthly is now generated with Claude, and 90%+ of the engineering team has adopted Claude Code.
The most striking result is the modernization timeline: the core transaction service was migrated from Java 8 to Java 21 in under four days against a four-week estimate. Data-transformation Lambda build times dropped from 3–5 days to under one hour. The team also used Claude to compress an 18-month update roadmap into seven months — described in the case study as a six-month acceleration versus the original plan.
The deployment paired Claude Code with reusable Claude Skills and a suite of agentic capabilities aimed at Satispay's mature Java and Spring codebase, which processes every transaction on the network. The challenge was structural: Satispay's engineering team was weighted toward early-career engineers, which forced senior engineers to spend most of their time on orientation and teaching rather than building, slowing roadmap velocity.
The architecture uses Anthropic's Claude Code as an agentic AI coding tool that writes, edits, and executes code autonomously, with Claude Cowork providing an agentic workspace that lets Claude access external tools and complete multi-step tasks. Satispay positions the deployment as a template for financial-services engineering teams trying to convert a junior-heavy talent mix into a high-velocity roadmap without proportional senior hiring.
