Ant Group, Alibaba's fintech affiliate and operator of China's dominant payment platform Alipay, has launched a major expansion into AI-powered healthcare services. The company's AQ health app has served 140 million users as of late 2025, offering more than 100 AI-powered services. Key capabilities include AI Doctor Agents that answer patients' routine health questions 24/7, medical report analysis via photo upload, AI-powered doctor recommendations aligned with patients' conditions, personalized health guidance, and medication management. Ant Afu, the AI health chatbot branded as a wellness companion, gained 30 million users seeking personalized health care. The app integrates with wearable devices (Huawei, Apple) for continuous health monitoring and supports fall detection for elderly users. Ant Group's strategy positions AI health as the company's third major growth phase, following payments and inclusive finance. The company leverages extensive partnerships with Chinese regulators, hospitals, and doctors that give it a competitive edge in the AI healthcare race. Founder Jack Ma endorsed the healthcare push,亲自 naming the AI chatbot 'Afu' (meaning friend in Chinese) to make the service feel approachable and trustworthy. Both Alipay AI Pay and the AQ health app each surpassed 100 million users by 2026 Chinese New Year.
