Title
Trustly Generates Insights 4x Faster Using Amazon QuickSight and Redshift
Content
Trustly, the Stockholm-based pay-by-bank payment processor serving 110 million consumers across 30+ countries, scaled its analytics user base from 80 to 300 while generating insights 4x faster and cutting maintenance costs 50% after migrating to Amazon QuickSight and Amazon Redshift. Ricardo Oliveira, director of data analytics at Trustly, points to the architectural simplicity: "There's native integration between Amazon Redshift and Amazon QuickSight. We don't need to have anything between the database and the visualization tool, which reduced data issues and increased data quality." Denner Padilha adds, "With the same team size, we can deliver more. The solution increased our visibility, monitoring, availability, and resilience." The previous BI solution forced a single analyst to spend 4 hours per day maintaining dashboards, while users waited for ad-hoc query responses and near-real-time refreshes were capped at three times per day. With Trustly launching new products almost monthly, leadership needed fresher data and self-serve capabilities that the legacy stack could not deliver. By February 2023, Trustly had completed the Redshift migration and rolled out QuickSight in under six months. After go-live the user base scaled rapidly from 80 to 300, and within six months of Amazon Q in QuickSight deployment users across the risk, data science, executive, product, and sales teams submitted 15,000 natural-language questions that returned answers with 89% accuracy. The solution layers Amazon Redshift as the data warehouse, Amazon QuickSight as the visualization layer, and Amazon Q in QuickSight as a generative BI assistant for natural-language queries. Because the three services are natively integrated within AWS, Trustly's data does not leave the AWS ecosystem, which simplifies governance — the team can now scope dashboard access to specific user groups rather than the entire company. Beyond the 4x speedup and 50% maintenance reduction, dashboards now refresh every 15 minutes (up from 3x daily), enabling near-real-time KPIs that support the monthly product cadence. The serverless nature of QuickSight allowed Trustly to onboard new teams without extensive training, and Padilha notes that "we can onboard more teams and users very quickly and simply." Trustly continues to scale the analytics platform alongside its product roadmap, with the data analytics team tuning Amazon Q's understanding of customer-specific naming conventions so that the 11% of queries it initially misses return accurate results on subsequent attempts — pointing toward broader self-service analytics for executive decision-making.
