Honeywell Experion Operations Assistant Predicts Alarm Incidents 5-10 Minutes Ahead at Chevron and TotalEnergies Refineries

Honeywell announced the commercial launch of Experion Operations Assistant on March 19, 2026, following successful pilots with Chevron and TotalEnergies. Built on Honeywell flagship Experion PKS distributed control system, the solution merges historical and real-time site data with language models to analyze conditions and advise operators. In the pilot phase, the AI assistant predicted alarm incidents an average of 5-10 minutes before they would have occurred, enabling operators to quickly implement corrective actions and avoid potential events. At TotalEnergies Port Arthur Refinery, the initial pilot on the Delayed Coking Unit successfully forecast five potential events, helping minimize downtime and reduce emissions from flaring. Predictions were made an average of 12 minutes in advance. The commercial launch marks a significant step bridging the gap between autonomous technologies and control room operators. Honeywell leverages more than 50 years of process automation expertise combined with site-specific knowledge, data, and advanced AI to help operators anticipate issues earlier and respond with confidence. The system is integrated into the Experion PKS network, making it accessible to a wide range of industrial operators.
