Daikin and Hitachi Begin Trial of AI Agent for Equipment Failure Diagnostics in Factories

Daikin Industries and Hitachi have begun a trial operation at the Sakai Plant-Rinkai Factory (Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture) of an "AI Agent for Equipment Failure Diagnostics" that integrates generative AI with Daikin's OT (operational technology) knowledge and Hitachi's IT expertise. When a maintenance technician discovers equipment failure in pumps or valves, the AI agent identifies the cause and recommends corrective actions on a tablet device. The system converts Daikin's factory equipment drawings into knowledge graphs that generative AI reads, then learns from "OT data" including maintenance records and Hitachi's STAMP-based equipment failure cause analysis process. A preliminary demonstration test confirmed the agent identifies failure causes within 10 seconds at over 90% accuracy across five failure situations for five equipment types. The trial runs April 2025 to September 2025 at Sakai Plant-Rinkai, with plans to roll out to Daikin's 90+ production sites in 28 countries. Hitachi will adopt the system as a Lumada solution throughout the manufacturing industry.
