Robert Bosch GmbH, the Stuttgart-based engineering and technology leader with €91.6B 2024 revenue and 420,000+ employees, has deployed Shopfloor Agent—an agentic AI software running on tablets in production facilities—to help associates restart manufacturing equipment more quickly after breakdowns, with annual savings of approximately €850,000 per Bosch plant. Bosch's strategy combines 100+ years of manufacturing expertise with state-of-the-art AI, focused on feasibility, scalability, and measurable benefits. Deployment began as an internal pilot at the Bamberg plant by end of 2025 and rolled out globally. Christiane Becherer, Senior Specialist at Sick Corporation (a German sensor specialist with 10,000+ employees), took over project management of the Bosch Agentic AI flagship at Sick. Bosch has committed €2.5B in AI investment by 2027 and €10B+ by 2035. Architecture spans the Bosch Manufacturing Execution System (MES) integrated with the agentic AI layer, with the Shopfloor Agent running on tablets and supporting multiple languages. Michael Kolb's patent on MES optimization through agentic AI was the initial spark, designed for industrial scalability and customer adaptability. Operational scale spans Bosch's global manufacturing footprint, with the Shopfloor Agent deployed across multiple German plants and offered to external customers. The €850,000 annual savings per plant comes from reducing machine downtime through faster error analysis, helping maintain employment competitiveness in high-wage economies like Germany. Looking ahead, Bosch plans to expand the Shopfloor Agent to additional customers, integrate deeper with MES platforms, and scale the agentic AI approach to other manufacturing processes, leveraging its €10B+ AI investment commitment through 2035.
