CeADAR Builds an Automated ETL Pipeline for Pearl & Dean Ireland to Add Irish Streaming Listings to Entertainment.ie

Pearl & Dean Ireland, which owns entertainment websites including Entertainment.ie, worked with CeADAR's European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH) for AI to automate the collection of on-demand streaming listings, according to a CeADAR case study published in March 2025. Entertainment.ie provided TV and cinema listings, recommendations, reviews and news but did not include programmes and films from Irish streaming services such as RTÉ Player, Virgin Media Player and TG4, and searching for updates manually was time-consuming. A digital maturity assessment identified the project as the one with the greatest impact, and CeADAR's data scientists scoped an automated solution with the company under the EDIH's fully funded Test Before Invest service. CeADAR built an extract, transform and load (ETL) pipeline that retrieves streaming data from RTÉ Player, Virgin Media Player and TG4, transforms it into a standardised format, loads it into the website's database and runs daily comparisons to detect new or removed content. The company can maintain the listings in-house without ongoing third-party support. After the Test Before Invest phase, Pearl & Dean Ireland was in the process of deploying the pipeline to the live website. David Bryan, Head of IT Development, said the tool, "whilst still in its infancy, has already proved to be a great success for our readers & company," letting the site show the full catalogues of Irish streaming services alongside international ones. He said early feedback from readers was very positive and that "early analytics shows an estimated 10-15% growth in usage," while removing a manual, time-consuming task.
