Doto Health, an India-based health-tech company, has built Nurtura, an AI co-pilot that helps doctors and nurses monitor labor in high-load facilities, and delivers it in more than 25 Indian states through public and private providers in urban and rural settings. The company has also run pilots in Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, and won an ITU AI for Good Innovation Factory session on accessible healthcare in March 2026.

Many complications happen during labor or just after birth, a period that needs continuous monitoring and quick decisions, yet facilities in these markets often have few staff for many patients and heavy documentation loads.
Nurtura combines connected hardware with an AI interpretation engine. Wireless, portable, solar-powered units track fetal heart rate, contractions, maternal vital signs, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and ECG, and feed them into a mobile application. At its core is a convolutional neural network that analyzes cardiotocography graphs together with patient data and clinical parameters to help providers identify pregnancy and labor risks, with automated alerts supporting triage. A second, patient-facing layer considers physiological data and room conditions such as light and noise and offers prompts, for example suggesting hydration based on maternal vital signs. The system is positioned as decision support, with clinicians keeping oversight.
Doto Health names clinical validation and regulatory approval as its main hurdles in new markets and is refining the platform to fit local clinical standards and workflows.
