Title
China Unicom 5G+AI Quality Inspection at Voyah Wuhan Plant — One New EV Every 118 Seconds
Content
At Voyah's (岚图汽车) Wuhan "China Auto Valley" final-assembly plant, a brand-new electric vehicle rolls off the line every 118 seconds — and China Unicom's 5G+AI industrial-quality-inspection system catches 99%+ of defects across six critical workstations while lifting line efficiency by 20%. "The Voyah single line now supports flexible mixed-flow production of SUVs, MPVs, and sedans. Every 118 seconds a new vehicle comes off the line — that's 600 finished cars per day, and customers receive their custom-configured cars in as little as five days from order to delivery," said Hu Yong (胡勇), Director of Voyah's Final-Assembly Plant. Voyah, the premium smart-NEV brand under Dongfeng Motor, grew 70% year-over-year in 2024 on its "three categories in three years, four cars in four years" product cadence. To support mass customization at scale, China Unicom's Hubei branch built Hubei's first 5G+AI industrial-quality-inspection project — pairing a 5G+MEC private network with proprietary AI inspection micro-models. The project was recognized in Hubei Province's AI typical-use-case catalogue and Wuhan's first batch of AI-empowered-manufacturing transformation cases, and helped Voyah earn the "2024 MIIT Smart Manufacturing Demonstration Factory" designation. On 2025-06-24, after 1,366 OTA-style upgrades, Voyah's strategic SUV model FREE+ opened for pre-sale with Huawei's latest assisted-driving and smart-cockpit systems. Six critical workstations — instrument panel, doors, tires, etc. — are monitored by AI visual-inspection systems fusing motion-control with deep-learning algorithms to auto-detect missing or mis-installed body components. End-to-end architecture: end-device + 5G network + edge (MEC) + cloud service. In parallel, China Unicom and Voyah pioneered industrial-equipment hardware/software separation — integrating vehicle control, smart cockpit, and intelligent-driving modules to break foreign-vendor monopoly; engineers now write 50+ vehicle-system software packages in real time over 5G at the dedicated software-flashing center. Production: 600 finished vehicles/day per line at 118s/cycle (~720 theoretical max). Mix flexibility: SUV / MPV / sedan on a single mixed-flow line. Defect detection: 99%+ across 6 stations. Efficiency gain: +20%. Recognition: Hubei AI typical case + Wuhan AI-empowered-manufacturing typical case + 2024 MIIT Smart Manufacturing Demonstration Factory. "We will continue deepening cooperation with Dongfeng Voyah, expanding into AI predictive maintenance, digital twin, and other scenarios — delivering 'smart-transform, digital-transform' solutions for Hubei's 1,400+ above-scale auto enterprises, accelerating high-quality development of the new-energy vehicle industry cluster," said the Hubei Unicom lead. China Unicom frames its next phase as pushing 5G+AI applications from peripheral support into core production processes, advancing Chinese smart manufacturing up the global value chain.
