Allianz's Project Nemo, deployed in Australia in July 2025, is the insurer's first integrated agentic AI solution for claims processing. It targets food spoilage claims under AUD$500 arising from storm and natural catastrophe events, reporting an 80% reduction in claim processing and settlement time and completing the full technical pipeline in under five minutes per claim.
"With 'Project Nemo' as our first integrated agentic AI solution, we're achieving an impressive 80% reduction in claim processing and settlement time," said Maria Janssen, Chief Transformation Officer at Allianz Services. Brendan Dunne, Chief Customer & Operations Officer at Allianz Australia, added that "this innovation is the result of fantastic collaboration across the Allianz network – underscoring our global commitment to building smarter systems, not just better ones."
Before Project Nemo, low-complexity food spoilage claims clogged claims queues during Australian catastrophe events while adjusters were already stretched handling complex losses. The system addresses that pressure by automating routine checks so adjusters stay focused on high-value cases. A human adjuster authorises every payout after reviewing the full audit trail, preserving human judgment in the final decision.
Project Nemo went from initial scoping to full production in Australia in under 100 days. It sits within a broader Allianz AI journey that began with employee AI training in 2020, continued through the AllianzGPT rollout to 60,000+ employees in September 2023 and the Insurance Copilot deployment for automotive claims in Austria in 2024.
The system coordinates seven specialised AI agents across a sequential pipeline: a Planner agent orchestrates the workflow; a Cyber agent enforces data security and policy guardrails; a Coverage agent verifies policy entitlements for severe-weather food spoilage; a Weather agent cross-references meteorological databases; a Fraud agent applies machine-learning pattern recognition; a Payout agent calculates settlements; and an Audit agent logs every decision and forwards the case to a human adjuster for payment authorisation.
In production, food spoilage claims under AUD$500 are routinely handled within hours, freeing handlers for complex cases during catastrophe surges. The modular framework is being extended across travel, auto and property lines, and Allianz's January 2026 global Anthropic partnership — covering Claude Code for staff, custom claims agents and an AI transparency logging system — extends the agentic approach into motor and health claims.
