Suzano, the Brazilian company that is the world's largest producer of market pulp, built an internal tool called VagaLúmen to let employees query SAP materials data in plain language. With around 50,000 employees and increasingly decentralised data, Suzano wanted to maintain information security and knowledge management while cutting repetitive work, spreadsheet downloads and recurring searches in its SAP environment.
VagaLúmen uses Google Cloud Cortex Framework to populate views from Suzano's SAP Material base in BigQuery. When an employee asks a question about materials, Gemini Pro 1.0 converts it from natural language into SQL and runs the query on BigQuery. Suzano uses Artifact Registry to build the Docker images, Cloud Run to automate processes and Cloud Load Balancing to keep the service efficient. Suzano built it with Google Cloud and partner Sauter Digital, which supplied technical knowledge of the Cortex code and documentation.
"One of the main results has been a 95% reduction in the time required to query Insumos and MRO material, a process that used to take an average of 2 minutes, now can be done in just 8 seconds with VagaLúmen," said Josilda Saad, CIO and CDO of Suzano. Since going live in May 2024, VagaLúmen had reached 4,000 accesses and 473 unique users; with further functionality planned for August 2024, Suzano expected to reach about 6,000 unique users.
