The V-BAT is a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial system designed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in border security and emergency response operations. Developed by a U.S. defense technology company, the V-BAT combines the VTOL capabilities of a helicopter with the efficient cruise flight characteristics of a fixed-wing aircraft, enabling it to operate from confined spaces without runways while covering large patrol areas. The platform features combat-proven Hivemind Autonomy software enabling fully autonomous flight operations, target identification, and data collection without continuous operator control. India selected the V-BAT VTOL drone for naval and border ISR missions, recognizing its ability to operate from ship decks and remote terrain while providing persistent aerial surveillance coverage. New Zealand has also deployed the V-BAT for maritime surveillance operations across its exclusive economic zone, demonstrating the platforms utility for island nations with extensive coastlines to monitor. The V-BAT fills a critical gap between small tactical drones with limited endurance and larger fixed-wing surveillance aircraft requiring significant infrastructure.
