Tencent WeBao's AI Claims Tool Files 100,000 Cases, Cuts Submission Time 40%
Content
Tencent WeBao — Tencent's official insurance agency platform — processed 100,000 claims through its AnxinPei AI Smart Claim Filing service between its January 2026 launch and April 2026, with nearly 50% of daily claim users choosing the AI tool over the manual flow. The platform has shortened average submission time by approximately 40%, with key hospitalization-insurance products achieving roughly 55% efficiency improvement. According to a Tencent WeBao spokesperson, "AI smart filing can automatically identify medical document information and fill in the claim form, achieving one-click filing and automatic form filling." On the hardest claim types, the spokesperson added, "complex products previously required 40 to 50 or even more than 100 documents — now AI classifies and extracts information in an average of just 4 minutes." The deployment was built to fix four pain points in Chinese insurance claims: heavy documentation (sometimes 100+ items per case), repetitive manual form-filling, slow review cycles, and inconsistent claim experience. The new service now covers all 180 products sold on the WeBao platform — medical, accident, and cancer insurance — and any user entering the claim flow can opt into AI assistance. The system runs on two model layers: WeBao's self-developed claim model plus Tencent's multimodal vision large model. It executes three sequential capabilities — AI material intelligent classification, AI intelligent pre-review, and AI automated form filling. Users batch-upload up to 20 medical imaging materials at a time; the system auto-identifies invoices, medical records, fee lists, and discharge summaries, runs quality checks (clarity, completeness, occlusion), then pre-review flags missing, mis-transmitted, or blurred materials. Auto-fill completes the key claim fields in five seconds and cross-validates against historical claim records. At the operational level, the platform reports medical-document recognition accuracy above 98%, with key hospitalization products running 55% faster than the manual baseline. The deployment is in production across the full product catalogue and is now the default claim path for the majority of daily claim users. The Tencent WeBao team frames the deployment as human-AI collaboration rather than full replacement. "AI will deeply participate in pre-, during-, and post-claim processes for efficiency — outpatient and other simple cases can be fully handled by AI, but disability, large-amount, rare-disease, and disputed cases still require deep human participation," the spokesperson said. McKinsey projects that by 2030 personal and small-business insurance claims will be largely automated, with straight-through processing accounting for over 90% of business. Peer deployments are tracking that trajectory: Zhongan Insurance has crossed 45% automated claim review (fastest case closed in 15 seconds), and UK-based Aviva runs 80+ AI models on claims, shortening complex-case liability assessment by an average of 23 days.
