Title
Intelligent Horizontal Transportation 2.0 for Mixed-Traffic Automation
Content
During MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei and Tianjin Port Group announced the Intelligent Horizontal Transportation 2.0 Solution, an advanced system for port automation addressing the challenges of horizontal transportation in mixed-traffic environments. The solution has evolved from conventional independent vehicle intelligence to a vehicle-road-cloud synergistic architecture, establishing a triple-intelligence system comprising a smart cloud, intelligent roads, and autonomous vehicles. The microservice architecture cloud brain performs global path planning, smart decision-making, resource configuration, and exception handling, while the onboard system handles high-precision environment sensing, obstacle avoidance, and precise control. The solution enables AI Robots of Transportation (ARTs) and manual container trucks to operate safely together — moving beyond the limitations of physical isolation traditionally used in automated terminals. It supports coordinated management of up to 300 vehicles simultaneously with an ART intervention rate below 0.1%, significantly reducing manual intervention and resolving deadlocks at intersections. Huawei's cloud-based smart scheduling algorithms dynamically plan operational paths for manual trucks in real time using multiple roadside sensors. The solution allows traditional terminals to adopt digital and intelligent capabilities at lower cost without large-scale infrastructure reconstruction. Huawei noted that 5G's reliability, low latency, and high bandwidth serve as the digital backbone for stable automated port operations. Huawei has served more than 100 ports worldwide.
