Chinalco Releases Kun'an 2.0 Industry AI Model for Non-Ferrous Metals, with 52 Scenarios and 8 Industry Datasets

The China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and Chinalco (Aluminum Corporation of China) released Kun'an 2.0, a large AI model for the non-ferrous metals industry, at an event in Beijing, Science and Technology Daily reported in January 2026. Association president Ge Honglin and Chinalco chairman Duan Xiangdong spoke at the launch, which included reports by Zhang Bo of Tsinghua University's Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Sun Lifeng, an industry technology chief scientist at Huawei's 2012 Laboratories and an expert in a Chinalco-Huawei joint project on new-materials research. The association and Chinalco released the first version of Kun'an, the industry's first AI model, in December 2024 together with 18 application scenarios. During 2025 Chinalco extended AI into core parts of its business and built more than 100 application scenarios, from which 52 were selected for release, along with eight high-quality industry datasets. Chinalco describes Kun'an 2.0 as an intelligent system covering the whole production process of the non-ferrous metals industry chain, intended to change business processes in geological exploration, mining, smelting and processing, and recycling. At the same event, the association and Chinalco set up an alliance for high-quality non-ferrous metals industry datasets with 10 initial members, including state-owned companies, AI technology developers, universities and research institutes, held awards for a Kun'an AI application competition, and published a framework for digital and intelligent security governance in the industry.
