Title
Clinical Pathways Automation Across All ICU Segments
Content
Etiometry, the Boston-based pioneer in AI-based clinical decision-support software for high-acuity units, has deployed Clinical Pathway Automation across all ICU segments (adult, cardiac, neuro, pediatric) within top U.S. medical centers, with full deployment reached in the third quarter of 2024. The AI-based Clinical Intelligence Platform uses FDA-cleared risk algorithms to standardize ICU workflows in line with hospital guidelines, enabling care teams to make informed decisions using aggregated and visualized data on one screen. Clinical data show significant gains: a 22% reduction in time on mechanical ventilation and an 18% reduction in vasoactive infusion time, both driven by workflow automation that supports efficient escalation and safe de-escalation decisions. Since the introduction of automated clinical pathways in 2021, Etiometry has continuously expanded the scope, including automated quality reporting launched in 2023. The deployed pathways now include ERT/SBT (Extubation Readiness Test / Spontaneous Breathing Trial), vasoactive medication weaning, neuro-protective measures, AKI (Acute Kidney Injury), mechanical ventilation management, track and trigger for resuscitation action plan, GDT (Goal Directed Therapy), Norwood post-operative management, IVCO2 (Inadequate Ventilation of Carbon Dioxide) escalation, and fast track extubation. Additional pathways for ARDS, ventilator weaning, and lung protective strategies are planned for end of 2024. "Reducing care variability has emerged as a key strategy for health systems to improve patient outcomes and resource efficiency — especially in high-acuity, high-stakes units," said Shane Cooke, Etiometry CEO.
