Tata Power CCRA AI Platform Saves $741K/Year Across 4,150 MW Renewable Portfolio
Content
Tata Power's Trading Company Limited (TPTCL) implemented a Central Control Room for Renewable Assets (CCRA) platform to monitor its client's portfolio of 65 solar sites (3,100 MW) and 21 wind sites (1,050 MW). The case study covers a prominent solar farm owner and operator with a significant presence in the renewable energy sector, owning and operating a 200 MW ground-mounted solar farm spread over 1,000 acres in Rajasthan — a region renowned for its ideal solar conditions. Prior to implementation, the plant faced operational inefficiencies including no predictive analytics for asset health monitoring, no monitoring of soiling depositions over modules, increased downtime due to unanticipated failures, delays in identifying underperforming assets, lack of real-time insights of deviations in current levels with respect to solar radiation, and decentralized monitoring & data management. The CCRA platform integrates AI/ML analytics, SCADA, and digital twin technology. Open SCADA protocols (OPC UA & MQTT) ensure interoperability across vendors. The platform enables redistribution of DC loading of inverters and virtual string monitoring, reducing manual intervention requirements. The system delivers approximately 5% clipping loss reduction, ~16 MUs additional energy yield, and approximately $741,081 USD per annum revenue gain for the client. Key features include profiles of normal component behavior, anomaly detection across inverter health, SCB/SMB and IDT performance, real-time monitoring of soiling depositions, yield analysis with lost production insights, and a centralized data repository for benchmarking performance across multiple sites. The CCRA system was implemented by Tata Power's Trading Company Limited as a scalable AI-driven platform for centralized monitoring and management of renewable energy assets, integrated securely across both solar and wind portfolios, providing comprehensive operational stability, improved performance, and reduced O&M costs.
