Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment (DDSE) partnered with BlueGen.ai to deploy a synthetic data platform for improving the robustness and utility of Labor Force Surveys. The project uses BlueGen.ai's AI-powered synthetic data generation technology to create privacy-safe versions of official labor force survey data. Synthetic data addresses four key use cases for DDSE: data privacy and confidentiality by reducing privacy threats through datasets that do not reveal individual identities; data accessibility and sharing by allowing external researchers to access privacy-safe labor force data for analysis; supporting policy simulation and scenario analysis by enabling policymakers to examine the effects of policy initiatives in risk-free settings; and advancing statistical methods including data integration, model development, and machine learning applications. DDSE defines that the most important statistical values cannot exceed a 0.5 percent difference between real and synthetic datasets—a very small margin. Quality is measured in resemblance and utility through automated evaluation reports comparing real and synthetic data. This project demonstrates how synthetic data can improve labor force survey methodology by providing scalable, privacy-protected data collection and analysis options. As models develop, the use of synthetic data can spread beyond labor force surveys to assist with larger research and decision-making activities across industries. The initiative supports Dubai's smart city ambitions by enabling more sophisticated data-driven policy making while ensuring privacy compliance.
