SingHealth Deploys AI-Accelerated MRI Scanning, Reducing Scan Time by 25%

SingHealth, Singapore's largest public healthcare cluster, has opened a new MRI centre at Dunearn Village equipped with AI-powered imaging technology from United Imaging Healthcare that reduces scan times by up to 25%. The new facility features three MRI machines with AI functions that enhance image reconstruction through advanced algorithms. The AI enables faster data acquisition and noise reduction without compromising image quality, while automating workflows to enhance the efficiency of radiographers. The centre currently applies AI acceleration primarily to MRI scans for prostate and musculoskeletal areas including the spine, knees, and ankles, with plans to expand to additional procedure types. The 25% reduction in scan time translates to approximately 18,000 additional scanning slots per year, significantly increasing patient access to MRI services across SingHealth's network. Patients benefit from greater flexibility in securing preferred appointment slots. The AI also enables better patient comfort during scans with wider 75-centimeter bores and immersive nature visuals in scan rooms. Beyond the new centre, SingHealth is expanding AI applications across its radiology department, including AI-augmented breast imaging analysis to support radiologist interpretation and CT brain screening for intracranial bleeding. The AI helps prioritize critical cases and reduce waiting times for patients with abnormal findings. This deployment positions SingHealth as the first institution in Southeast Asia to offer MRI services using this integrated design and AI-accelerated imaging approach.
