The driver was compliance work that scales poorly. Hospitals managing 340B Drug Pricing Program compliance must cross-reference each purchase against FDA shortage lists, ASHP data, days-on-hand inventory, ML-based shortage predictions, and backorder signals from hundreds of hospitals — a manual audit process consuming over 4,000 hours annually per covered entity. Bluesight's first AI opportunity was drug diversion detection in ControlCheck; the second, more ambitious use case was GPO prohibition auditing, where hospitals classified as DSH, PED, or CAN must prove outpatient drugs are unavailable through non-GPO channels using evidence across CostCheck, ShortageCheck, and 340BCheck simultaneously. Both use cases required production-grade, HIPAA-compliant architecture with audit trails and explainable, deterministic determinations. In September 2025, Bluesight partnered with AWS through the Experience-Based Acceleration (EBA) program for a three-day sprint: a team of 15 (eight Bluesight engineers, seven AWS professionals) built a conversational drug diversion analyst with Strands Agents on Amazon Bedrock, connecting over 10 ControlCheck APIs through AgentCore Gateway as MCP servers. A key decision was wrapping existing ControlCheck API endpoints in AWS Lambda functions that returned structured, agent-optimized data — separating AI reasoning from the data layer and cutting latency from 5 minutes to 10 seconds. In March 2026, a second EBA built the GPO prohibition agent: a coordinating agent delegates to specialized data workers, running Claude Sonnet 4.6 as primary model and Claude Haiku 4.5 for fast operations on AgentCore Runtime in a VPC with private subnets.
