Covering 1,000 People in 6 Months, Saving 7,000 hours per year, Bayer China Reshapes Training System with Generative AI
Content
Bayer China launched Dr. Bei, an LLM-based AI training system for pharmaceutical medical representatives, covering 1,000 representatives in six months and saving an estimated 6,000 to 7,000 hours of training time per year while boosting 1-on-1 role-play coaching efficiency by more than 50 percent. Patrick Moeller, CIO of Bayer Pharma, said: "To accelerate our business innovation, we choose AWS for its seamless local-to-global integration and responsive support. These capabilities are crucial for us to timely incorporate the latest LLMs and services into our development and deployment pipeline." Traditional medical-rep training was time-consuming, costly, and lacked sufficient customization, while Bayer China required all generative AI innovation to remain inside a secure, manageable compliance framework. From proof of concept to official launch, Dr. Bei took just 72 days, scaling from 450 concurrent users at launch to more than 1,000 users within six months, offering 14 different doctor-visit scenarios for immersive hands-on practice. Dr. Bei is an intelligent conversational bot built on Anthropic's Claude large language model via Amazon Bedrock, with serverless elastic scaling on AWS Lambda, traffic management through Amazon API Gateway, and access control and traceability managed through AWS Landing Zone backed by AWS's 143 global compliance certifications. The system simulates doctor conversations for natural language voice role-play, allowing reps to practice repeatedly in realistic scenarios before meeting real physicians. Following its exceptional performance in China, the system has commenced a global rollout, with deployment already steadily underway in Europe and being actively advanced across additional Asia-Pacific regions to build a standardized, world-class intelligent training system.
