Google Translate Live Translate Headphone Translations Expand to iOS and 12 Countries

Google announced that Live Translate, its AI-powered Google Translate feature that lets people hear real-time translations in their headphones, is expanding to iOS and to more countries. The feature is now available on iOS and Android in the U.S., India, Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Nigeria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh and Thailand. Previously it was only available on Android in the U.S., India and Mexico. The capability turns any pair of headphones into a real-time, one-way translation device. The experience leverages Google's Gemini AI and keeps each speaker's tone, emphasis and cadence intact, which Google says makes it easier to follow the conversation and tell who is saying what. It works with any pair of headphones and supports more than 70 languages. Google suggests that people can use the feature to follow dinnertime conversations with relatives who speak another language, or to understand train announcements while traveling in a different country. To use it, people open the Google Translate app, tap the Live Translate option, and connect their headphones.
